Job Description

Amentum is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer 3 to be based in our Englewood, CO location. Although the position is based out of our Colorado office, Amentum is open to this position being filled remotely with the right candidate that has excellent communication and time management skills. This position will perform a variety of engineering assignments in planning and overseeing research, development, design, manufacture, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of diverse electronic/mechanical equipment and systems and generally as a member of a design, analysis or review team on more complex assignments or as a lead on less complex assignments. Key Responsibilities include performing a range of design development, analysis or review tasks under minimal supervision; acting as a lead on less complex tasks and responsible for a portion of a design or section of an analysis or design review; generating complete design specifications of more complex projects; coordinating and working closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements; establishing and maintaining filing systems or databases for tracking project status; developing, maintaining and producing technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications; direct interface and liaison with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications; conducting site visits, experimental investigations and analyzing engineering problems, proposing solutions and alternatives, and providing recommendations; verifying and complying with engineering documentation standards and test procedures; supporting development of technical proposals and providing comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work; developing engineering deliverables, scope of work, budget (engineering hours) and schedule. Minimum Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related scientific field and at least 5 years of job-related experience or equivalent; willingness to become registered in fire protection by exam; experience in major aspects of industrial fire protection and life safety, and major codes and standards including NFPA suppression system standards, NFPA alarm system standards, DOE and DOD, API, ICC, FM Global Data Sheets; knowledge of special hazards such as electric generating plants, facilities handling nuclear materials, battery energy storage systems, flammable and combustible liquids, LNG and LPG, explosions and deflagrations, existing facility evaluations, fire hazard and risk evaluations/analysis, fire modeling, life safety, performance based design, hydraulic analysis; computer skills including hydraulic analysis software; strong communication skills to clearly communicate complex ideas and engage stakeholders; managerial skills including familiarity with Earned Value Measurement System (EVMS); good communications and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs; position may require travel and ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance; candidate must be US Citizen due to nature of the work.
