The University of Louisville International Affairs Department is seeking to hire an International Student Specialist III. The position will report directly to the Associate Director of the International Student & Scholar Services Office. The international Student Specialist III is responsible for delivering immigration advising that is compliant with federal immigration regulations surrounding international F-1 and J-1 students and Exchange Visitors and reporting to the federal government using the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). The incumbent advises international students on immigration matters and the application for benefits, admission and the reviewing and approving of immigration documentation, contacting prospective international students, and guiding these students through the pre-arrival process. The incumbent will collaborate with the ISSS team and on and off campus stakeholders to provide co-curricular opportunities for F-1 and J-1 populations and their dependents. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide advice to international students of the F-1 & J-1 visa categories which is consistent with the regulations governing international students and exchange visitors. Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) in the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Act as a liaison, advisor and advocate for the F-1 and J-1 student/scholar populations within the University of Louisville and serve as a resource for the University community on immigration issues concerning international students and scholars. Generate initial and transfer I-20s for newly admitted UofL students. This includes advising international students on policies/procedures required for international requirements to obtain a Form I-20 and other pre-arrival information. Generate initial DS-2019s for exchange visitors. This includes advising exchange visitors on policies/procedures required for international requirements to obtain a form DS2019 and other pre-arrival information. Advise current students on regulations governing Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT). This includes conducting work authorization workshops for international students and scholars. Advise and guide students and scholars in understanding and overcoming social and cultural adjustments that occur for international students and scholars. This includes participating in the creation of and implementation of programming designed to assist international students and scholars in their transition to the United States. Collaborate with academic and service units across to provide students and exchange visitors with opportunities to gain valuable academic and co-curricular experiences at the University and ensure a consistent delivery of services to international students and scholars. Other tasks as assigned.
