Job Description

We are the Shell team in the Windows Servicing and Delivery (WSD) organization. The delivery of new innovations and updates to our customers is at the core of WSDs mission to keep Microsoft customers protected and productive.

WSD Shell team orchestrates the release of exciting new features and guards the quality of the user experience in existing and future versions of Windows to our consumer, enterprise and Microsoft Cloud customers.

As a **Software Engineer II** in WSD Shell team, youll closely work with product teams and other engineers to bring new features to Windows products. This opportunity will allow you to develop deep business acumen, hone your technical skills and accelerate your career growth.

**Responsibilities**

+ Works with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements for a set of features. Incorporates appropriate continuous feedback loops measuring customer value, usage patterns, and other actionable metrics of value.

+ Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight. Helps to identify other teams and technologies that will be leveraged, how they will interact, and when one's system may provide support to others. Contributes to determining back-end dependencies associated with product, application, service, or platform functionality for product features.

+ Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Writes and learns to create code that is extensible and maintainable. Considers diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability with few defects, and understands when the code is ready to be shared and delivered. Applies coding patterns and best practices to write code.

+ Creates a clear and articulated plan for testing and assuring quality of solutions, and defines success for outcomes of tests (e.g., unit tests). Adds new tests, removes antiquated tests, and aggregates tests to improve tests in the feature area. Helps to drive efforts for augmenting test cases and ensures that the solution area has good test coverage. Helps to integrate automation features when planning for testing.

+ Identifiesareas to efforts to integrate instrumentation for gathering telemetry data on system behavior such as performance, reliability, availability, usage, and safety mechanisms. Contributes to sustaining feedback loops from telemetry resulting in subsequent designs. Helps to create outputs of telemetry such as notifications or dashboards.

**Qualifications**

**Required Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C, C++, C# or JavaScript

+ OR equivalent experience.

+ 2+ years of experience with Win32 APIs and ability to design and implement robust system architectures and frameworks

+ 2+ years of experience in performing regression testing.

**Other Requirements:**

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

+ **Microsoft Cloud Background Check:** This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C, C++, C# or JavaScript.

+ OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C, C++, C# JavaScript.

+ OR equivalent experience.

+ 2+ years of industry experience in software development, testing, deploying, operating, and supporting medium to large scale services.

+ 2+ years of experience developing and optimizing algorithms using C++ and practical application of data structures in software development.

+ Experience in Git or other version control systems

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
